Evidence presented in my case by the mother and other witnesses states that I was a loving and present parent. However, I believe my drug use and criminal background played a pivotal role in securing my conviction.

The mother had significant involvement with child protective services, and the child was meant to be removed from her care two days before the collapse.

Pregnancy and Birth

The mother was hospitalized five times during pregnancy and received no prenatal care. She used drugs heavily throughout pregnancy for at least six months. Anemia and placental abruption were noted. The baby was born full term, but the mother’s first child had been removed from her care until they turned eighteen due to alleged “Shaken Baby Syndrome.” After birth, the mother continued using methamphetamine and GHB.

The Day Everything Changed

Piercing screams weeks before the collapse indicated severe distress. Severe diaper rash was noted, and on the day of the collapse, the child had a bloody nose and labored breathing. CPR was administered as the child moved in and out of consciousness. Medical care arrived twenty minutes later. In the hospital, significant bruising to the genitals was noticed along with bleeding from the nose, throat, and mouth. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) was diagnosed upon admission.

When the Diagnosis Was Made

The diagnosis included disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), undiagnosed sepsis, and medical negligence due to heparin being administered in an excessively bleeding patient with mucus membrane bleeding from the nose, throat, and genitals. Metabolic disturbances were also noted.

Inside the Legal System

I was sentenced to thirty-four years in prison with a non-parole period of twenty-seven years. I have currently served nine years, and my appeal is pending.

Living Under Suspicion

My biological children have suffered immensely. The paternal family has endured procedural bias in lower courts, as have I. I have not been allowed access to my biological children for nine years, and they were denied access to my family for three years, destroying their lives. It cost $10,000 AUD and a lengthy time in family court for them to regain access.

I have been diagnosed with PTSD and other mental health issues and am now indoctrinated into the prison system—a situation that will not change even if I am eventually acquitted.

However, I stood by my truth and have not wavered from my innocence. My case is one of “Shaken Baby Syndrome.”

Therefore, I personally funded the sale of my artwork to coordinate a symposium on “Shaken Baby Syndrome” and educate the public about these cases’ issues. I will continue using my case to bring awareness to legal and medical issues in Australia and endeavor to build a support system for those suffering this injustice.
